Company/ Commercial Solicitor Vacancy

We are looking for a 1-to-4 year PQE UK qualified Company/Commercial solicitor with a particular interest in Intellectual Property and Technology to join Hansel Henson.

Who we are

Hansel Henson is a leading specialist IP and media law firm based in Central London with four partners and a growing team. We focus on soft intellectual property, media and technology law, for which we are ranked in the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

We undertake contentious and non-contentious work and have a particularly strong digital media practice, dealing with all forms of new media and digital technology, as well as other IP rich fields including audio-visual content, software, licensing, sponsorship and merchandising.

The firm’s corporate commercial department advises on commercial contracts, other non-contentious commercial and IP matters and works on investments, business sales and acquisitions for its established client base.

We also deal with the protection, exploitation and enforcement of all intellectual property rights, particularly trade marks.

Our clients operate across a wide range of sectors including fashion, retail, sport, gaming, tech, TV, film and entertainment. We work for clients such as the creative agency, Inca Productions, the post production house LipSync Productions (films include Golda and Greatest Days), the Science Museum Group and Talewind (the game developer/publisher on platforms including Roblox) as well as smaller businesses and start-ups.

What you’ll do

  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts dealing with a range of products/services/tech across a wide-range of industries.
  • Work on bespoke projects such as TV/film financing, data protection compliance/privacy impact assessments and product promotion campaigns for retail clients.
  • Advise on investment documentation for, for example, early stage and Series A.
  • Act for clients of ours where they are going through investment rounds or buying or sale processes including carrying out due diligence and drafting and negotiation of sale documents.
  • Depending on your experience, supervise more junior fee earners.

What you’ll bring

  • 1 to 4 years PQE (although we will consider candidates outside this PQE if they can demonstrate the necessary skills and experience) in a leading UK firm or as an in house lawyer.
  • Experience in either or both of the following:
    • drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally with an IP/technology focus (e.g., software licences, development agreements, terms of service, distribution agreements etc...);
    • corporate work, in particular acting for clients at early stage/pre-seed/seed/ Series A investment rounds
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of some or all of the following:
    • data protection;
    • intellectual property;
    • consumer law;
    • trade marks;
    • copyright;
    • design rights;
    • advertising;
    • video games;
    • software/mobile app design/development/launches and related legal issues;
    • film finance.
  • Strong academics.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Strong organisational skills with effective time management to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills (including good working knowledge of Microsoft 365).
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
  • Great communication skills.
  • A positive and proactive attitude.
  • A thirst for knowledge and desire to progress.
  • Aspirations to develop relationships with existing and new clients.
