Seeking a Trade Mark Attorney/ Solicitor

We are looking for a 2-to-4 year qualified Trade Mark Attorney/Solicitor to join Hansel Henson.

Who we are

Hansel Henson is a leading specialist IP and media law firm based in Central London with four partners and a growing team. We focus on soft intellectual property, media and technology law, for which we are ranked in both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

The firm’s trade mark portfolio has grown significantly following Brexit. We make UK applications and carry out international filings through the Madrid Protocol for UK and overseas clients. We cover trade mark prosecution work, oppositions/cancellations and provide maintenance and clearance services.

We look after trade mark portfolio’s for clients across a wide range of sectors including fashion, retail, sport, gaming, TV, film and entertainment.  They include household names such as Subway, the Science Museum Group, Bensons for Beds, Scribbler, Crystal Head Vodka, Hungry Shark and Calvin Harris as well as smaller businesses and start-ups.

Additionally, we are trusted advisers on the protection, exploitation and enforcement of other IP rights. We undertake both contentious and non-contentious work and have a particularly strong digital media practice, dealing with all forms of new media and digital technology, as well as other IP rich fields, including audio-visual content, software, licensing, sponsorship and merchandising.

What you’ll do

  • Advise on trade mark, design rights and domain name matters.
  • Provide strategic advice and costings on trade mark filings and international portfolio structure.
  • Carry out brand reviews and audits including the review and maintenance of our clients’ trade mark portfolios.
  • Prepare, file and prosecute trade mark applications, liaising with foreign agents where necessary.
  • Advise on and draft responses to registry objections.
  • Advise on and prepare recordals at the UKIPO.
  • Conduct trade mark searches, analyse results and prepare reports.
  • Advice on cancellations, oppositions and infringements.
  • Draft opposition and cancellation notices.
  • Draft and prepare evidence and submissions for opposition and cancellation actions.
  • Prepare for registry hearings.
  • Draft and negotiate undertakings, co-existence agreements and settlement agreements and handle inter partes disputes before trade mark registries.
  • Advise on renewal strategies, trade mark use, maintenance issues and handle renewals of trade mark and design registrations.
  • Review monthly watch services and report accordingly.
  • Market and develop our trade mark business and your own practice.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 2 years post qualification experience in the private sector or an in-house trade mark department.
  • Knowledge of trade mark law and practice.
  • Knowledge of registered design rights.
  • Experience of preparing and submitting takedowns is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills with effective time management to ensure deadlines are met.
  • The ability to multi-task and deal with many matters for different clients on a daily basis.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills (including good working knowledge of Microsoft 365).
  • Knowledge of WebTMS is desirable.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
  • Great communication skills.
  • A thirst for knowledge and desire to progress.
  • Aspirations to develop relationships with existing and new clients.
